Decimal learning

We are learning to:
Explain what decimals actually are and how they link to fractions and percentages.

Read and identify decimals to two decimal places.

Order decimals to three places, for examples, 6.25 and 6.3

I learnt what the decimal point is for, it separates the whole numbers from the part numbers. we have been working with deci-pipes which are these:

These are thousandths. These are hundredths.
I learnt that fractions relate to decimals because if you have 0.25 it is the same as 1/4. there are also whole deci-pipes and tenths deci-pipes which look like this:
Whole. Tenths are the ones in the rubber band and the ones next to them.

Gravel at Frankley School

My Kite

In class for our Te Ara Tika, we built kites and tried to make them achieve lift, be durable, and be aerodynamic. Some of our kites did all 3 but some others did 1 or 2, and some weren't successful and their kite didn't do any of the 3.

My design is shaped like a plane kite for the top, and at the bottom it just has a bit cut off so that it is flat, so it is lighter than before because before I cut it off there was a lot of bamboo that was acting like weights. I chose a plane kite because in research 2 or 3 websites Jack and I saw said, having a point on the front of a kite made it cut through the air, and helped it stay in the air.

The materials for my kite that I chose were bamboo, because it is durable, string, to hold some parts together and for me to hold on to and control my kite, tape, to hold it together, rubbish bag, for the body of the kite, and finally some material hanging off the wings, to catch the wind. I made  these decisions because they are all good for kites but if I use too much bamboo and sellotape, my kite won’t fly. It was hard to pick these materials, but I had it all at home, and its pretty good, so I chose them.

The Zone of Confusion

I am going to tell you what the “Zone of Confusion” is and How to get out of it. The Zone of Confusion is for when you are confused you will be in the Zone of Confusion, and it is hard to get out of the Zone of Confusion because you have to do multiple things like ask someone else, but before you do that you should try to figure the problem out yourself. When I am in the Zone of Confusion I get frustrated and annoyed because I can't figure out what to do. Even though the Zone of Confusion makes people get annoyed with themselves, it is a good place to be in because the person in the Zone could learn something from there.

My ANGRY moment

My ANGRY moment

“Let me go!” I yelled at Olivia and Claudia. There were tsunamis of sweat brushing down my face, while I was ripping free. My hands tensed together like they were super glued together. Sprinting towards my room knowing that Olivia was there but not knowing that she had one of my special toys. “GET OUT!” I furiously shouted at her pushing pushing her and shoving her out. That’s when I noticed she stole my toy, “GIVE IT BACK!”

Today my class and I went down to the hall to do sports with Manuel and David. Se learnt some new tecnics and games, and the first game were called gold nugget and ruby and the other game was called table Foosball ,and the last one was called disc hopper. It was inside the hall instead of outside because they didn't know if it was going to rain, or blow away all of the equipment for the games.

Camp

Camp

The best part of camp was getting to look at the house and the cottage and explore the Tupare Gardens. It was the best part because the house is where the Matthews family lived, Russell Matthews Mary Matthews and the three kid Matthews.

The worst part of camp was getting skin peeled off of my foot by one of the tire tubes by putting my foot under the metal valve of the tube and Caleb sitting on it.

the most challenging part of camp was finding all the places and items when we were rogaining which is finding items. it was challenging because you had to go all around Tupare looking for all sorts of things.

The most nerve racking (stressful) moment was that at night when I needed to go to the toilet Daniel didn’t want to go outside so I almost peed my pants!

The funniest part of camp was when almost everyone was in their pajamas.

The silliest part of camp was that we went to the toilet in 7 little port-a-loos that turned smelly after a while, and there was a spider in the 2nd one.

I showed curiosity at camp when I was asking how to get into the secret room in the Tupare house.

I showed open-mindedness at camp when I  thought about a new idea for the sheep challenge which was a little game where you get into a team and there is one shepherd and the others are sheep.

I showed persistence at camp when I tried real hard to go to sleep for some extra minutes and then poof I got to sleep and before I knew it, it was 8:00 oclock in the morning.

Camp story

Camp

At camp I am excited about the rafting and
swimming we are going to do there. It is going to be exciting doing all the fun activities and games.

I am also nervous because there will be a lot of people I don't know. I will be nervous about some of the river rafting.

I am scared because at night possums could crawl into our tents. At night it will be hard to sleep in tents.
