My Hook

"Help!" I tried shouting out while I was inhaling loads of water from the pool. I was struggling to stay awake, and I was wasting all of my energy. I started yelling out, hoping that someone would hear me or at least see me."Help, gllg. HELP!" all anyone heard was "rrrrr, rrrr. RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!" I eventually shoved the foam board out of the way and kicked Daniel's legs so that he fell over.

Weekly Reflection

This week in maths, I have learnt what a Scale Map is. A Scale Map is a map that has a scale that is either, for an example,  a 1:100000 scale. A 1:100000 scale means that one centimetre on the map equals 100,000 centimetres, or 100,000 metres, or 100,000 kilometres, or maybe 100,000 millimetres. The other scale looks a bit like a ruler, but it actually could show (another example) 5 kilometres on one point, and then on the second point it could show 10 kilometres, and then at the end of the scale it could show 15 kilometres.

Weekly Reflection (What I have learnt this week)

This week in maths, I have learnt how to match plan views with the actual shape of multilink cubes. Riley and I are making a video on it to put on Mr. A’s google site. At the start we drew one single cube, and then we added one more cube onto it, then Riley made a shape and drew it, and now we are going to add more to it. The plan views of a shape are the top, front and side views of the shape.

The Len Lye Centre

Last Friday my class went to the Len Lye centre and looked at Len Lye’s magnificent art. we looked at heaps of different inspiring art, but the 2 that stood out for me were the Fountain and the Universe. My favourite thing that i saw was the Universe. The Universe looked like a stainless steel circle with a wooden ball bouncing on it, and it made a sound like the endless echo of the Universe.

Snakes in Ireland

Ari
Snakes in Ireland
My art shows how snakes were in Ireland and that there were heaps of snakes in Ireland. Snakes Were a big problem in Ireland before Saint Patrick drove the snakes Out and away from Ireland for ever. Saint Patrick was brave enough to get rid of the threat of Snakes.

Weekly learning

This week, I have learnt about remainders in maths for division. Remainders are numbers left over from a problem e.g. 46 divided by 7 = 6r3 because 7 times 6 = 42 and then there would be 3 left over, and another example: 86 divided by 9 = 9r5 because 9 times 9 = 81 plus the 5 remaining numbers. And that is what remainders are.

NYLD (National Young Leaders Day)

What did you think of NYLD 2015. Give your opinion and reasons why you hold these opinions (at least 4 sentences):

I Think it was  great experience with all of the speakers talking about how they were a leader, and now i want to be a leader. personally, i didn’t quite like the bus trip to Palmerston North, because I was on a row of seats all by myself and it was a 3 and a half hour long trip. There was a variety of speakers with different personalities, From an artist to an adventurer. 1 of the speakers was an artist and his name was Marcus Winter (AKA the sandman) and he was giving out 1 of his amazing art to the school that took the longest to get here, and we took the 2nd longest, and the people who took the longest to get to Palmerston North, were closer to Palmerston North than us!!

Who was your favourite speaker and why? (Describe in at least 4 sentences):

My favorite speaker was William Pike, because it showed that he never gives up. His story went like this… He hiked up the mount ruapehu with his friend, James. They found a dome shelter and decided to stay the night there, but William couldn’t get to sleep because James snores like a chainsaw. William heard a rumble outside, and the floor shook, so William peeked outside and saw mud and water everywhere. The mud and water rushed into the door and then it went quiet (which is when James woke up) and James backed into a corner, so he was safe. William’s legs got stuck under the mud so James went to get help. When James was away, a rescue team came and saved William, but he didn’t know because he got hypothermia, He thought he was dead. He woke up in a hospital bed with his dad next to him, and his dad said “You have been in an accident.” and the Doctors had to amputate his leg, because his bones were broken and popping out of his legs. He went back up to the mountain with a fake leg and got to the summit. That was his story.

What have you learnt about being a leader? (At least 4 sentences):

All passion, no limit. Make your mountains. You can change the world. Help others, because not everything is about you.

How could you use this learning here at school? (At least 4 sentences):

I can make goals and try my best to reach them. I can help others when they are hurt. If I get stuck on something, I won’t give up. I will think about others.

Action points - something I am going to work on (a goal) from NYLD:

Not giving up. Setting goals that i am not good at.

My favourite quotes were (remember to say who said them):

You can change the world - Chris Jupp
All passion, no limit - William Pike

Maths in Week 7

This week in maths, I have had a difficult learning goal: Dividing fractions. To learn how to do this, i had to go onto Khan Academy (Which is a website) and search for videos on my goal. When searching up dividing fractions it came up with Multiplying fractions also. I was curious because i wondered if i could try multiplying fractions as well, and if it would be easier than dividing fractions like normal dividing and multiplying.

This is supposed to say put the weather machine out of a wind shadow.

These are 2 of my tips on where to put a weather machine:

  • put it out of a wind shadow.
  • put it away fromanything that would interfere with the radio signal e.g. bushes, and trees or buildings.

My IKAN Goals

  1. I need to learn what a common factor is, and how to find the highest common factor in two numbers
  2. I need to find the simplest fraction of a decimal

Rates of Change (:in maths:)

Rates of Change is a maths strategy including fractions and whole numbers. To successfully do Rates of Change, the problem has to be a problem when you divide a number by fractions. This is an example: What is 3/4 (or three-quarters) of 18? Rates of change will make this problem easier. I will show you one way of doing rates of change, which i am going to do it in a table form:

Dollars
IceBlocks
$2012
$8___
For this example i am going to include iceblocks. Lets say I have $20 and i can get 12 iceblocks with that amount of money, and i want to figure out how many iceblocks i would get if i had $8. To figure it out i will divide 20 and 12. 20 divided by 5 equals 4 and 12 divided by 4 equals 3. 4 is a half of 8 so if i do 2 times 4 i need to do 2 times 3 which is 6, so the answer is 6 iceblocks.

Curiosity This Week

I am Writing about how I was Curious this week.

This week, I was curious 2 days ago when i did an activity called 'Cat out of the Bag'. The activity was a reading activity where we had to find the important ideas from the text. I was curious because i didn't understand how to recognise what a main idea is and a supporting idea is, so i asked how to figure out that an idea is a main idea, and Mr. A told us how to.

W.I.T Evaluation Sheet

How did your group work together? (Did you cooperate, share the work, stay on task, persist when things got hard? Were you open-minded to each others’ ideas? How did you show empathy?)
We showed empathy by helping other groups and helping each other when we got stuck.
We tried all of eachother’s ideas, but not all of them worked.
When things got hard, we tried and tried again until it finally worked out.
We only went off task on 2 days, and in the end we started being sensible.

What were you pleased about in following the Te Ara Tika pathway to learn about first aid? (Think about each of the steps - what steps did you do well or made progress with?)
I was proud that none of my questions were step 1 (a comment or irrelevant question)or step 2 (a question that has no keywords/phrases.)

What skills in the Te Ara Tika pathway do you think you need to improve on and why?
We need to work on finding answers to our questions quicker.

Now think about your google site. What are you really pleased about or had success with?
We are pleased about the C.P.R page, because we put in all of the types/versions of C.P.R. (Baby, Child, and Adult C.P.R)

What do you think needs to be improved on your google site?
We didn’t make the home page informative enough for anyone to understand what is going to happen in our google site without going onto another page.

Do you think your first aid google site does a good job of “effectively communicating” first aid skills? Why or why not? (Would you be happy with people using it to “Save a Mate”?
Yes because it tells you how to perform all of the types of C.P.R properly, and how to tell if someone has anaphylaxis and how to treat anaphylaxis.

What is one thing (skills, learning attitude) that each of you needs to improve on in our next W.I.T.? (Record each of your names with the thing to be improved)

I need to stop laughing and messing up in videos, and i need to talk louder in videos.(Ari)

I need to answer my questions faster, and to stop saying random stuff. (Kyle)

Term 1 Learning

This term in maths we have been learning how to round decimals and convert fractions into decimals and percentage e.g. 0.125 is 1 eighth which is 12.5%. In reading we have created a new system called Reading Cafe, in Reading Cafe we can choose 2 or 3 out of these activities:
Spelling City, Self Reading, Own Writing, Studyladder and Writing a Blog post.

I enjoy Reading Cafe because i get to read, i absolutely love reading because it calms my mind and it reminds me about good times i have had about that topic. I also enjoy Reading Cafe because i can choose heaps of different activities; and the only other topic that has multiple activities is maths.

This week's learning in Swimming and Maths

This week in maths we have been learning about reading numbers and knowing the value of 1 number in the number as in, if i had a number let's say 1,092,936,725 the value of the 1 would be 1,000,000,000.

Earlier this week in swimming i learnt how to keep my legs straight when i am kicking to do a stroke, and now i am learning to rotate breathe, which is when you lean your whole body when you turn to breathe.
